A new Edinburgh business is seeking to bring romance back into the world, one pretty gift box at a time.
Fiona Orr, founder of An Occasional Dream, came up with the idea for the box after feeling that people just don’t prioritise romance anymore.
‘In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, many have forgotten to make time for romance, and I think that’s a shame,’ she says.
‘An Occasional Dream is a way of bringing romance and intimacy into relationships. It’s a bit more original than the traditional chocolates or flowers, it lasts longer and it doesn’t add calories!’
The product is billed as ‘Romance in a Box’ and does pretty much what it says on the tin. The intriguing-looking blue cube, laced corset-style with a luxurious white ribbon, contains everything you might need for a romantic evening in with your other half – including lavender and ylang ylang massage oil, a pair of rose-shaped candles, a white satin blindfold, two ostrich feathers and a handful of rose petals that are perfect for creating an tantalising trail.
‘The name comes from a David Bowie song written in 1969 about his first great love,’ explains Fiona.
‘The blue theme is inspired by the lyric: ‘’Tween the sheets of summer, bathed in blue’ – and the box comes with a scroll printed with the lyrics to the song.’
The box itself is a beautiful place to store keepsakes – those treasured photographs, souvenirs and all the little things that trigger a memory of the special times in our lives.
