Children’s Show Review:  Emma Ainley-Walker

Potted Potter Potted Potter: The Unauthorised Harry Experience Fringe ReviewWe are part of a generation who grew up alongside Harry Potter, so it’s safe to say there are many different ways to consume Harry Potter-related knowledge, official or otherwise.  For most Harry Potter fans, therefore, the idea of all seven books being performed in 70 minutes seems too good to resist.

Jeff and Dan, the masterminds behind Potted Potter, are fantastic storytellers, overflowing with energy and incredibly skilled at keeping children excited and involved in the performance.  The very nature of the show requires it to be incredibly fast paced, and yet it still manages to fit in everything from musical numbers, a powerpoint presentation, comedy headgear to highlight the different characters, on-stage disagreements and audience participation in a full-blown game of Quidditch.

While there is most definitely something for every Harry Potter fan in this show, it is still probably best witnessed through the eyes of a child.  If you’re looking for something great to do with the family in the festival period, this show should definitely be top of the list.  However, if you’re looking purely for something Harry Potter-related to extend the magic, it doesn’t take much internet searching to find something that will work just as well as Potted Potter.

3rd-16th Aug 2011, 4pm, Pleasance Courtyard, £10-11(£9-10)
