After much anticipation, we were about to sit down to Afternoon Bee at One Square, the all new honey & floral themed afternoon tea – its most decorative Afternoon Tea to date.
We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table by the window, with a stunning view across to Edinburgh Castle, and handed a glass of Moet Imperial Champagne. What’s not to enjoy so far.!
The first task of the day was to select which type of tea we would like. A selection of no fewer than 16 types were on display in a presentation box, of which we were encouraged to open and experience the scents and delicate aromas of the loose leaf fine teas and infusions which are traditionally prepared at the table.
Our aperitif arrived in the form of an amuse bouche of lemon posset with fennel biscuits to stimulate our pallet. This was followed by a tower of deliciousness.
The savoury plate included parsnip & honey shot with parsnip foam, a brown shrimp tart, soy & lime glazed chicken served on herb focaccia, roast ham, celeriac & apple remoulade on a viennese roll! Once we finished these – we were presented with a selection of scones (plain, fruit, chocolate & lavender) accompanied by clotted cream and manuka honey lemon curd – exquisite.
We were spoilt for choice with show stopping sweets & desserts – highlights included hand-made sugar bees which adorn heather honey & Manjari chocolate ganache, macarons garnished with bee pollen, alongside our favourite, the colourful flower pots that were filled with vanilla & raspberry cream, pear, chocolate soil and topped with a chocolate daisy.
The service was exemplary, the food exquisite, together with views across to the Castle and fun images of buzzing bees adorning our plates, we were thoroughly spoiled as we relaxed and enjoyed our ‘Afternoon Bee’.
Based on our experience we would highly recommend a visit to One Square for Afternoon Bee.
