You may sail the seven seas, but you’ll never find another suit quite as nice as this one!
This month I headed to Godiva, a unique little shop in the Grassmarket that not only stocks a great selection of hand-picked garments from yesteryear, but also showcases the best new talent in fashion, with a vast array of re-worked and made-to-measure clothing by emerging and established designers. I cruised on in to be greeted by Fleur, the ever-cheerful owner, and had a good rummage through their enticing range of clothes and accessories.
I spotted this original 60s jacket and matching skirt set for £48 and fell for it hook, line and sinker. It is perfect for achieving that classic nautical look – a trend that comes back every Spring/Summer looking fresher than ever. I teamed it with a navy polka dot blouse, blue retro vanity case, and white tights… and ‘Hello, Sailor!’, I was nearly ready! The finishing touch was a brooch; nothing screams nautical chic quite like pinning a big ol’ anchor to your chest.
The traditional red, white and blue is such a great combination, and mixing these colours together is the quickest and easiest way to jump aboard the nautical trend. Whether you’re spending your summer in the Riviera or in Leith, add a splash of red, white and blue – it’s a surefire way of getting your wardrobe shipshape this season!
