As the weather turns cooler, her thoughts turn to cosy tweeds and natural colours for an autumn look that perfectly captures this season’s 1940s inspiration…
So long sweet summer! It is time to bid farewell to sun dresses and sandals. Waking up in the morning, slinging on a little floral number and feeling effortlessly feminine and romantic at the drop of a straw boater hat is no longer an option. Alas, the season has changed and it is time to embrace autumn. Walking through the Meadows and watching the leaves turn to rich gold, rusty orange and earthy bronze, I realised it was time to update my wardrobe and throw myself whole-heartedly into autumnal style.
I headed to Those Were the Days, the most recent addition to the Edinburgh vintage trail. I was bowled over by the stunning array of individually selected items on offer. Every garment has been lovingly cleaned and restored to its former glory. My heart skipped a beat as I scanned the rails of original vintage goodies and spotted rare classics by the likes of Mary Quant and Ossie Clark. The shop also boasts a fantastic collection of vintage bridal gowns from all eras, which makes it a must-see boutique for any bride-to-be looking for a truly unique wedding dress.
I picked out a gorgeous tweed jacket and teamed it with a sleek green pencil skirt, pretty cream blouse and fitted waistcoat. I accessorised the outfit with a leather saddle bag and brown brogues for a timelessly elegant 1940s Sweetheart look. The colour palette was perfect for the season and it was the ideal ensemble for an afternoon of country pursuits!
A rummage through the rails of Those Were the Days was all it took to convince me that achieving that autumnal chic look is as easy as a walk in the park!
